Network Rules & Acceptable Use Policy

By connecting to the Nethernet IRC Network, you agree to comply with the following rules and policies. These regulations are in place to ensure network stability, security, and fair usage for all users.


Connection Limits

  • When connecting to Nethernet through a shell, bouncer, VPS, ZNC, or similar provider, connections are limited to one (1) connection per person.
    Each individual may only use one account / ident / login on such services.
  • For all other internet providers, the following limits apply:
    • 3 connections per user or IPv4 /32
    • Strict enforcement thresholds:
      • 5 connections per IPv4 /32
      • 50 connections per IPv4 /24
      • 4 connections per user or IPv6 /64
      • 25 connections per IPv6 /48
  • These limits are strictly enforced. Attempts to evade connection limits may result in immediate restriction or banning.

Network Abuse & Security

  • Denial of Service (DoS) attacks or any form of abuse against Nethernet resources are strictly prohibited.
    This includes, but is not limited to:
    • Flooding
    • Cloning
    • Mass messaging
    • Mass inviting
  • Compromised, hacked, or unauthorized systems are not permitted to connect to the Nethernet network.
    You may only connect from systems you own or are explicitly authorized to use by the legal owner.
  • Any user found connecting from a hacked or compromised machine will be immediately banned, together with any accounts associated with the abuse.
    These rules are enforced without exception.

Advertising & User Conduct

  • Unsolicited advertising or promotional activity of any kind is strictly forbidden.
  • Users are expected to conduct themselves in a respectful and responsible manner at all times.
  • Please remember: you are a guest on the network, and appropriate behavior is expected.

Server Administration Rights

  • Each server’s administrative team reserves the right to deny access to or use of server resources to any user, group, site, or domain at their discretion, with or without prior notice.
  • Users must comply with any additional rules or guidelines stated in the Message of the Day (MOTD) of the server they are connected to.
    (Use /motd in your status window.)

Disclaimer & Liability

  • Nethernet does not log or monitor user communications for content or clarity.
  • By retaining a connection to the Nethernet IRC Network, you acknowledge and accept all current and future network policies, rules, and guidelines.
  • Nethernet, its servers, administrators, operators, and volunteers assume no responsibility or liability for:
    • Computer or system damage
    • Data loss
    • Any direct or indirect damages arising from network usage

By using the network, you agree to release Nethernet and its staff from all legal responsibility resulting from your use of Nethernet services.


Consequences for Rule Violations

  • Violations of these rules or any server MOTD rules may result in:
    • Temporary or permanent bans
    • Denial of access to specific servers or the entire network
    • Additional action where legally required
  • Attempts to evade bans may result in network-wide or provider-level restrictions.
  • Nethernet is not to be used for illegal activities under any circumstances.
    Verified and observable violations may be reported to the appropriate authorities.
  • While Nethernet operates as an unmoderated communication platform, the administration will cooperate with law enforcement when legally obligated to do so.

Appeals & Ban Inquiries

  • If you are banned from a single server, please contact that server’s administration team.
  • If you are banned from the entire Nethernet network, or have questions regarding restrictions, appeals, or policy clarification:
